5 Myths about the Creative Workforce Fellowship

Artists define the Creative Workforce Fellowship – through all aspects: the Fellowship year, the applications, the feedback... 

That last one is probably the toughest piece of the program for us on staff, but also the most interesting. We get some heated responses in the anonymous survey. We also hear directly from those who are not too shy to call us up.  I’ve been on the receiving end of many of these incredibly insightful conversations. The Community Partnership for Arts and Culture (CPAC) has revised the program every year based on these conversations…minus the curse words (totally kidding) and submits a new proposal for a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC). Along with the feedback, I’ve heard some less objective comments from the field over the years. I want to take a quick moment to address a few of the concerns that have popped up many more times than once.

Public issue campaigns and Election Days have always inspired me.  How we determine our public leadership and resolve civic issues is fascinating. Our participation in the democratic process, particularly at the local level, is a special opportunity to sustain vital civic services and assets and chart a positive path for our community.

20 Cleveland-area artists drive change for a better tomorrow

Today we release the video interviews with 2013 Creative Workforce Fellows as we accept applications for next year’s awards. Along with all of my colleagues at CPAC and throughout the sector, I believe in the power of arts and culture to drive change and shape better lives. For me, seeing these videos drove that message home in a way that I didn't even realize was such a core part of who I am as a young professional and citizen

Arts, Culture and the Western Reserve Plan

During his recent State of the County Address, Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald introduced his Western Reserve Plan, a comprehensive effort aimed at advancing Cuyahoga County. The Western Reserve Plan is the first in recent memory to articulate several innovative public policy strategies based on 12 clear goals. Cuyahoga County’s arts and culture sector is uniquely suited to help realize many of them because it is already working to accomplish these goals every day.
